care costs are out of control, with Pennsylvanians’ premiums rising
more than 75% since 2000. Meanwhile more than 1 million state residents
have no coverage, and many are forced to seek care in the most
expensive way possible—at the emergency room.
Affordable health care should be a basic right, and PennPIRG is working
to pass Gov. Ed Rendell’s plan to make low-cost insurance available to

Exposing Toxic Toys
PennPIRG’s released our 22nd annual toy safety report, "Trouble in Toyland" at a Pittsburgh press conference. Over the years, our report has prompted recalls or
regulatory action on over 100 toys.
In September we helped pass the most meaningful drug safety reforms in
decades. Among other changes, drug companies will no longer be able to
hide unflattering studies about their drugs on the market.
